Indonesia Strengthens the Coffee Market in Australia through Melbourne International Coffee Expo 2025

From 20-22 March 2025, Indonesia participated in the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) 2025, which aims to expand the Indonesian coffee market in Australia. MICE was attended by 130 exhibitors from various countries and more than 31,000 visitors, establishing it as a prominent business hub, and facilitating over 20,000 business transactions, workshops, interactive demonstrations, and world-class coffee industry competitions. The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Melbourne presented various coffee businesses, including the Indonesian Coffee Exporter and Industry Association (AEKI), the Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association (AKSI), Jack Runners Roastery from Bandung, Ariga Coffee and Papua Black Gold Coffee from the Papua Mountains.

At MICE 2025, the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne hosted a business gathering and a coffee cupping event in collaboration with the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA), which features various coffee types, including Sumatra Pollung Wet-Hulled, Sulawesi Malino Hybrid Washed, Aceh Pantan Sinaku Anaerobic Natural, and others. ASCA President Bruno Maiolo stated that Indonesia has a significant opportunity to expand its market in Australia. Moreover, Dr Siswo Pramono, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, reaffirmed that the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) opened up great opportunities for Indonesian coffee exports to Australia. From this event, Indonesia reached a business agreement worth AUD 2.39 or around IDR 25 billion for the purchase of green coffee. Furthermore, Indonesia has successfully attracted 90 potential leads, marking a significant increase from 2024's 53 leads and 2023's 45 leads, and PT Global Galang Pamitra successfully attracted 100 leads. Given the decline in coffee production in countries such as Brazil and Vietnam, Indonesia has significant potential to increase its coffee exports to Australia.
