On 23 March 2025, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso and Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Creative Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Product Development, which aims to enhance the development of UMKM in the creative product sector, fostering its resilience, innovation and competitiveness in domestic and global markets. The MoU encompasses a strategic scope, including creative product development, human resource capacity building, creative product marketing facilitation, intellectual property protection and commercialisation facilitation for creative products. In 2024, the creative economy sector contributed significantly to the National Gross Domestic Product, reaching IDR 1.53 trillion, and the export value reached USD 25.10 billion, dominated by the fashion, craft, culinary, and publishing subsectors. This underscores the high international recognition and demand for Indonesian creative products and highlights their significant economic contribution.
The integration of creative product development with the Brave Innovation, Ready to Adapt (BISA) Export UMKM Programme represents a pivotal step in accelerating the growth of UMKM in the creative economy sector. This initiative facilitates UMKM to engage in pitching and business matching. During January and February of 2025, a total of 146 business matching sessions were held, comprising 91 pitching sessions and 55 meetings with potential buyers. The total transaction value recorded was USD 8.77 million, consisting of purchase transactions worth USD 3.35 million and potential transactions worth USD 5.42 million. Furthermore, the government, business world, academia, society, mass media and law are collaborating through Hexahelix to strengthen the creative economy ecosystem through the development of research, education and protection of creativity.
