Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, highlighted Indonesia's significant kratom export potential to the United States. He revealed that 96% of the kratom supply in the US originates from Indonesia, with an export value reaching USD 350 million (IDR 5.8 trillion). Kratom, a herbal plant commonly found in West Kalimantan, is widely used for medical and therapeutic purposes. Indonesia’s kratom exports to the US continue, with the latest shipment recently completed.
Rosan acknowledged the growing demand for kratom after discussions with industry associations, recognizing its strong market acceptance in the US. He also addressed the impact of US-China trade tensions on global trade, including Indonesia. The Indonesian government has regulated kratom exports since late 2024, with Trade Minister Budi Santoso officially launching the first kratom export on February 28, 2025. This initial shipment from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, included 351 tons of kratom worth USD 1.05 million (IDR 17 billion), marking a key milestone for the industry.
