Director General of Customs and Excise, Askolani, praised PT HM Sampoerna Tbk's commitment to strengthening the national economy through exports and the expansion of smoke-free tobacco products to Malaysia and Armenia. He highlighted Sampoerna's consistency in driving economic growth, expressing hope that Indonesia’s 5% economic growth could reach 8%. He also emphasized that innovative smoke-free tobacco products, developed through extensive research, contribute to job creation, tax revenue, and foreign exchange earnings. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise pledged continued support in facilitating exports and imports.
In 2023, Sampoerna invested USD 330 million (IDR 5.3 trillion) in a smoke-free tobacco production facility in Karawang, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and the seventh globally for Philip Morris International (PMI). By 2024, Sampoerna had nearly doubled its export destinations for IQOS – TEREA to 15 markets, contributing to total exports of nearly USD 250 million, with smoke-free products accounting for over USD 50 million. Sampoerna’s Director, Elvira Lianita, affirmed that these achievements reflect the company’s role in driving Indonesia’s economy through sustainable investment, innovation, and job creation. She also emphasized the need for continued government support to boost global exports.
