Indonesia’s downstream palm oil industry continues to make a significant impact on the national economy. In 2023, the sector contributed approximately IDR 750 trillion, equivalent to 3.5% of Indonesia’s GDP. Additionally, it generated USD 28.45 billion (IDR 455 trillion) in export revenue, with 93.5% of exports coming from palm oil derivative products.
To raise awareness of the industry’s economic benefits, the Agricultural Journalists Forum (Forwatan) and key palm oil associations—APROBI, APOLIN, and GIMNI—organized a social initiative, distributing essential goods, including palm-based cooking oil, to orphanages and Islamic boarding schools in Jakarta, Bogor, and Depok. The event was held for the fourth consecutive year, reinforcing the positive impact of palm oil products. GIMNI Executive Director, Sahat Sinaga, emphasized the need for regulatory certainty to enhance the industry’s global competitiveness, aligning with President Prabowo’s downstream industrialization vision. Forwatan Chairman, Yuwono Ibnu Nugroho, highlighted the strategic role of palm oil, urging the public to recognize its benefits and avoid misinformation.
