North Maluku’s coconut industry is set for significant growth, marked by the inaugural export of coconut water from North Halmahera to Sweden. Governor Sherly Laos, alongside PT Natural Indococonut Organik (PT Nico), officially launched the shipment of two containers on March 25, 2025. This milestone highlights the region’s expanding presence in international markets.
PT Nico also announced ambitious expansion plans, targeting seven new factories within five years, projected to create 40,000 new jobs. North Halmahera Regent Piet Hein Babua praised PT Nico’s role in supporting local farmers, emphasizing its impact beyond purchasing coconuts by fostering partnerships and improving farmer welfare. With these investments, North Maluku’s coconut industry is poised for substantial economic contributions and sustainable development.
