The government continues to strengthen the retail industry as a key driver of national economic growth. With progressive policies, the sector is expanding and making a significant contribution to the economy. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that optimism in the retail sector is crucial for Indonesia’s economic progress. He highlighted Indonesia’s strong domestic market and resilience as essential factors in sustaining growth.
Retail plays a central role in boosting purchasing power, with household consumption contributing 52% to the national economy. To ensure inclusive growth, the government has introduced various financing schemes for MSMEs, including the People's Business Credit (KUR), which is targeted to reach IDR 300 trillion by 2025. Moving forward, digitalization in retail will be a key focus to accelerate inclusive and sustainable economic growth. With nearly four million retail stores across Indonesia, uplifting this sector could help achieve the government’s 8% economic growth target by 2028-2029.
