PT HM Sampoerna Tbk (Sampoerna) recently held the Big Idea Forum, themed Heroes of the Nation's Economy: The Power of MSMEs to Drive 8% Economic Growth. Attended by 1,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) assisted by Sampoerna, the event emphasised the pivotal role of the UMKM sector in propelling the Indonesian economy. The event explored a range of strategies to empower UMKM, emphasising their role as a catalyst for national economic growth and the significance of cross-sector collaboration to achieve the 8% economic growth target. Indonesia holds a pivotal position in Philip Morris International's (PMI) global supply chain, serving as a key destination for long-term investment and continuous innovation, according to Jacek Olczak, CEO of Philip Morris International (PMI).
Since 2005, PMI has invested more than USD 6.4 billion to support Sampoerna's operations in Indonesia, partnering with over 22,000 tobacco and clove farmers, employing over 90,000 individuals, engaging more than 1.5 million retailers, and nurturing over 347,000 UMKM in Indonesia. In Indonesia, PMI's smoke-free product investments total USD 330 million. This includes the establishment of an export-oriented, state-of-the-art smoke-free tobacco production facility in Karawang, West Java. The facility employs 200 Indonesian experts in a world-class research and development laboratory. During the Big Idea Forum, Sampoerna, represented by PT SRC Indonesia Sembilan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BULOG, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Tbk, PT Pos Indonesia and PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel). The MoU is expected to stimulate positive developments and generate multiple benefits for the Indonesian community, particularly in terms of supporting the growth of UMKM.
