Textile and Apparel Industry Growth Accelerates, with the Q1 of 2025 Seeing IDR 304.43 Billion in Investment

In Q1 of 2025 (January-March), the Directorate of Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry of the Ministry of Industry issued Business Certificates (SKU) for four textile and apparel industries, with a total investment of IDR 304.43 billion. These investments are expected to create 1,907 job opportunities, indicating a significant growth in the textile and apparel sector. Investment in this sector is part of efforts to strengthen competitiveness in domestic and global markets, reflecting investor optimism regarding the industry's prospects in Indonesia. In 2024, the textile and apparel industry grew by 0.09%, while the footwear and leather goods industry expanded by 6.83%. Total investment surged by 31.1%, reaching IDR 39.21 trillion. Notably, the domestic market in the textile and footwear sector shows immense potential. From March 2020 to March 2024, the average per capita expenditure of Indonesians on clothing, footwear, and headgear stood at IDR 35,457 per month, and the total domestic market potential was estimated at IDR 119.82 trillion.

The domestic market potential of the textile and footwear industry further strengthens this sector as one of the priorities in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045. Moreover, with changes to the US tariff policy, Indonesia has the opportunity to expand its export market and increase product competitiveness in the global market. The government's ongoing strategy of supporting the textile and footwear sector through policies promoting production efficiency, environmental technology adoption and market diversification is expected to drive further growth in Indonesia's textile and footwear sector.
