Indonesia's Pavilion at Foodex Japan 2025 Facilitates Business Cooperation and Investment Opportunities

From 11-14 March 2025, the Indonesian Pavilion made a return to the 50th edition of the Foodex Japan 2025 International Exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo, Bank Indonesia Tokyo, the Ministry of Trade, and the ASEAN Japan Centre to promote exports to Japan through the promotion of quality food and beverage products. The pavilion provides a platform for 23 micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) that produce processed sweet potatoes, frozen vegetables, instant coffee, snacks, and artisan tea, among other products. The Indonesian Pavilion's presence at Foodex Japan is strategically significant, as it provides a valuable opportunity to expand networks, gain insights into Japan's food import policy as Indonesia's primary trading partner, and serve as a centralised hub for business networking, market intelligence, investment opportunities, and the cultivation of stronger partnerships between Indonesian producers and Japanese buyers, importers, and distributors.

The export value of Indonesian food and beverage products to Japan was USD 853.41 million in 2024, led by the fisheries sector. Indonesia's participation in Foodex Japan is anticipated to enhance bilateral trade and foster business collaboration between the two nations, particularly with the implementation of the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA). The Japanese market holds significant potential, with 60% of food products currently depending on imports that need to meet Japanese standards and regulations. Having complete laboratory test documentation for products is important to facilitate negotiations with Japanese buyers. At Foodex Japan, two trade agreements worth USD 391,000 and four Letters of Intent (LoI) for Indonesian food products were signed.
