The Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, stated the return of the 100,000-tonne beef import quota to businesses may occur once the realization of 50% has been achieved. Presently, private businesses hold 80,000 tonnes of beef imports, and upon reaching 50% realisation, the import quota of 100,000 tonnes will be considered for opening, as stated by the President Director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia. The government has deliberately decided not to release the entire import quota of 180,000 tonnes at once to control beef imports.
Prior to this, on 5 February 2025, the Limited Coordination Meeting on Food had decided to reduce the beef import quota from 180,000 tonnes to 80,000 tonnes, a decision that was met with dissatisfaction by businesses. However, on 12 February, the government reversed the decision and returned the 100,000-tonne beef import quota to businesses. This was in response to concerns raised by the industry over the transfer of the import quota to the state owned (BUMN) food holding company ID Food.
