On 14 March 2025, Indonesia-Chile celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations, with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, receiving a visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Indonesia, H.E. Mario Ignacio Artaza. This meeting was a significant step in strengthening Indonesia's partnership with Chile, and exploring the potential for bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation. Ambassador Artaza expressed Chile's support for Indonesia's accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by sharing experiences and offering solutions for Indonesia's challenges. He also encouraged Indonesia to involve more Latin American countries in the accession process. Chile also expressed full support for Indonesia's efforts to accede to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Chile considers that Indonesia's participation in the OECD and the CPTPP can significantly raise standards.
Both Indonesia and Chile have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their economic cooperation within the framework of the Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA), including the completion of negotiations on the investment chapter. It is anticipated that this will generate new investment prospects and enhance the business environment in both countries. From 2020 to 2024, economic cooperation under the IC-CEPA has contributed to an increase in the volume of trade between Indonesia and Chile, with a surplus trade balance for Indonesia. Furthermore, Indonesia has expressed support for Chile's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and acknowledges the potential of Chile joining the RCEP, thus strengthening trade and investment networks in the Asia-Pacific region.
