Gorontalo’s agriculture sector is thriving, bringing optimism for economic growth in the region. On Sunday, 16 March 2025, Governor Gusnar Ismail oversaw the shipment of 301 cattle to Kalimantan and 14,000 tons of corn to Jakarta and Padang. These exports highlight the province’s strength in agriculture, reinforcing Gusnar’s vision of making Gorontalo a leading agromaritime hub. With the majority of the population engaged in farming and livestock, the governor remains confident that these sectors will continue to drive regional prosperity.
Economic growth in Gorontalo reached 4.13% in 2024, slightly lower than the previous year’s 4.50%. However, the inclusive agromaritime approach is expected to boost the economy further in 2025. A key challenge remains the need for more investment in agricultural processing industries, particularly in meat and corn production, to increase product value. Corn producers also share this optimism, with Suwandi, a commissioner at PT. Gorontalo Pangan Sejahtera, noting strong production and favorable corn prices at IDR 5,500 per kg. With more harvests ahead, expectations remain high for Gorontalo’s agriculture to sustain its impressive momentum.
