The Jayapura Customs Office reported a significant increase in exports to Papua New Guinea through the Skouw Border Post, reaching IDR 9.5 billion in February 2025, up from IDR 1.6 billion the previous year. Head of Jayapura Customs, Adeltus Lolok, attributed this growth to intensified education and outreach efforts for local businesses in Papua.
Currently, exports mainly consist of household goods and infrastructure materials. However, authorities are optimistic about expanding exports to processed food, fisheries, and plantation products, given Papua’s high-quality commodities. With ongoing efforts to simplify export procedures through digital applications, the number of exporters has risen to ten, with two more expected to join soon. Customs aims to further enhance export opportunities, eventually utilizing seaports and airports alongside the Skouw Border Post to facilitate trade expansion.
