Various ways are done by the community to increase their income, especially for housewives (IRT) in Pontianak City, one of which is making crafts that have a selling value. Sungai Jawi Village Head Rima Nurfitria said that this training is good, in order to improve the skills of MSME mothers in creating handicraft products with selling value, while also supporting the local economy. "Through the development of crafts assistance from Telkom Kalbar, not only does it provide training but our residents also get a set of tools and materials for knitting, such as knitting yarn, knitting needles, and basic patterns for making bags," said Rima Nurfitria, Monday (10/3/2025) afternoon.
Rima explained that with practical guidance, the participants learned how to turn simple materials into high-value works of art. Moreover, the enthusiasm of the mothers participating in the training was very visible throughout the session. "They not only learn basic knitting techniques, but also how to finish knitted bags neatly and strongly. The instructor also shared various tricks and tips in knitting to produce high-quality bags," she explained. Meanwhile, One of the training participants, Lastiani, welcomed the training, not only can it boost the family economy but can also add new knowledge for herself and housewives who do not have permanent jobs. "In addition to being housewives, we also get new knowledge as tailors. We hope that this Telkom assistance can be sustainable. Telkom Kalbar hopes that the community can become MSME actors so that they can develop knitted craft bag products with better quality, and improve their ability to manage businesses," she said. This training, said Rima, is a real step in supporting women's empowerment and local economic development in West Kalimantan, as well as providing opportunities for mothers to develop craft skills that can increase their income.
