The Ministry of Trade has issued import permits (PI) for a total of 226,101 tons of garlic for 2025. This was revealed by Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order at the Ministry of Trade, during an inflation coordination meeting held by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, March 10, 2025. A total of 39 import permits have been issued, with 39,209 tons of imported garlic expected to arrive in Indonesia this month, followed by an additional 19,704 tons in April. So far, only 8,409 tons have entered the country in 2025, prompting the Ministry of Trade to urge importers to accelerate shipments.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that the government had approved the importation of 300,000 tons of garlic for the year. Speaking to the media, he explained that although the annual requirement is around 500,000 tons, 300,000 tons have already been approved within the first two months of 2025, ensuring sufficient supply to stabilize the market.
