According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Madiun ranked fifth in East Java's highest economic growth in 2023 but climbed to second place in 2024 with a growth rate of 5.73%. BPS Madiun Head, Abdul Aziz, stated that the city's economic growth surpassed both East Java’s average of 4.93% and the national average of 5.03%. The highest growth in East Java was recorded in Surabaya at 5.76%, followed by Madiun and Sidoarjo at 5.54%.
In 2024, Madiun's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached IDR 18.65 trillion, while at constant prices, it stood at IDR 12.44 trillion. The transportation and warehousing sector recorded the highest production growth at 10.95%, while the highest expenditure growth came from the PK-LNPRT component at 13.34%. However, Aziz cautioned that while trade, manufacturing, and information sectors continued to grow, their growth rates slowed compared to 2023.
