Jakarta Towards a Global City and Economic Center

The provincial government wants to make Jakarta a global city and an economic center that is competitive, sustainable, and prosperous for its citizens. "This vision is outlined in five main missions," said Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno. He said this while attending the Public Consultation Forum regarding the Jakarta Medium-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD), on Tuesday (11/3). In addition to providing direction, Rano also introduced the public aspiration channel as a forum for community participation in the preparation of the RPJMD. In this event, Rano was accompanied by the Jakarta Regional Secretary, Marullah Matali.

According to him, the five missions are (1) Realizing an empowered and prosperous metropolitan society. (2) Building an innovative economic center with equal access to resources. (3) Creating modern city management that is accountable and responsive for optimal public services. (4) Realizing a livable, resilient, and sustainable city space. (5) Developing connectivity and collaboration between economic, social, and cultural activities. Furthermore, Deputy Governor Rano emphasized that Jakarta will not only continue existing development, but also strive to become a city on par with advanced cities in the world. He highlighted the increasingly complex urban challenges. However, he remains optimistic that Jakarta has great potential in improving the welfare of its citizens and supporting the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045. On the other hand, Regional Secretary Marullah added that the increasing number of urban residents has contributed to national economic growth. The Jabodetabekjur area now contributes 23.8 percent to the national GRDP. Jakarta is the main driving force of the Indonesian economy.
