Pineapple leaf fiber from Prabumulih, South Sumatra, is making its way to the global market with its first sample shipment to Spain. After passing inspection by South Sumatra’s Quarantine Agency, this initiative is expected to pave the way for large-scale exports, benefiting local farmers and businesses.
Exporter Dzar Zaidi, who has been producing pineapple fiber since 2021, previously supplied 600 kg to a Singaporean company but only through Jakarta. With a direct export process now in place, production is set to increase from 200 kg to 1 ton per month. Supported by government-provided decorticating equipment, this effort strengthens South Sumatra’s role as Indonesia’s second-largest pineapple producer, following Lampung.
