The Ministry of Agriculture Encourages Fundamental Transformation of Indonesia’s Coffee Industry

Indonesia, one of the world's top coffee producers, is poised for a major transformation. With its renowned Arabica and Robusta varieties, the country has a strong global reputation, and now, efforts are underway to ensure greater prosperity for its 1.8 million smallholder farmers. By addressing supply chain inefficiencies and embracing modern agricultural practices, Indonesia has the potential to significantly boost productivity beyond the current 817 kg/hectare and strengthen its competitive edge against major producers like Brazil and Vietnam.

To accelerate growth, the government is championing farmer cooperatives, sustainable certification, and innovative financing, while also promoting Indonesia’s coffee through global hubs in cities like Tokyo, Berlin, and Dubai. Advanced technology, such as IoT-driven precision farming and waste repurposing into high-value products, will further enhance sustainability and profitability. These initiatives position Indonesia to not only uplift farmers but also solidify its standing as a leader in the premium coffee market, blending tradition with cutting-edge innovation.
