Director of Small and Medium Industries (IKM) for Food, Furniture, and Building Materials at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Bayu Fajar Nugroho said that the furniture industry is one of the labor-intensive downstream industries that is export-oriented. "The furniture industry is one of the labor-intensive downstream industries that is export-oriented and has a real positive impact on the non-oil and gas sector, which we noted was 17.31%," said Bayu at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) Yogyakarta, on Sunday. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry appreciates the synergy that continues to be built between furniture and craft associations in increasing export value and meeting the needs of domestic furniture and craft products, including through the Jogja International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (JIFFINA) exhibition at JEC on March 8-11, 2025.
Bayu said, based on records in his ministry, the furniture industry contributed 1.2% with its export value reaching USD 1.91 billion, or up 3.2% from the previous year. "So we see this trend is still good even though there are some obstacles but we see the trend is still quite good," he said. He also said that furniture industry exports are still dominated by countries in the United States, the European Union, and Japan. And now we are also looking at South Asia such as the Indies and Africa. Data from Expert Market Research, the global furniture market in 2024 reached USD 660.35 billion and is expected to grow 49%. "And this macro condition actually gives us Indonesia market opportunity penetration which is currently only filled by Indonesia by 0.28%, so the opportunity is still very large," he said. This is supported by domestic market conditions, which in the ministry's data, has an industrial confidence index throughout 2024 with a value of 53.15. "This means that this growth still exists, if the value is below 50 it means contraction, there is a slight lack of demand," he said.
