Bank Indonesia (BI) Balikpapan and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Balikpapan held a regular discussion with media representatives across the city on Tuesday (4/3/2025). The session was opened by BI Balikpapan Head Robi Ariadi and BPS Balikpapan Head Marinda Dama Prianto, aiming to share updated economic data, including the latest inflation figures. Robi highlighted that Balikpapan’s economic growth index in 2024 stood at 3.23%, lower than 2023’s 6.49%, primarily due to a decline in processing industries, including the impact of a refinery fire at Pertamina.
Robi remains optimistic that economic growth in 2025 will reach 4.7%–5.2%, supported by increased investment, as Balikpapan remains an attractive city for businesses. Meanwhile, BPS Balikpapan Head Marinda Dama Prianto noted that the economy had slowed compared to the previous year. She pointed out that in 2024, the processing sector contributed 45.55% to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) but experienced a slight contraction of 0.01%, significantly impacting overall economic growth.
