Indonesia and Austria Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Several Key Sectors

On 3 March 2025, the sixth meeting of the Indonesia-Austria Bilateral Consultative Forum (FKB) was held, and the two countries agreed to increase cooperation in leading sectors including trade, investment, education, tourism, and renewable energy. Furthermore, the two countries emphasised the significance of people-to-people relations, particularly among the younger generation poised to become future leaders and decision-makers. Both countries agreed to strengthen the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on skilled labour, with a view to facilitating the mobility of professional workers from Indonesia to Austria. In the face of challenges posed by armed conflict and the rise of the extreme right in several countries, Indonesia and Austria are committed to maintaining their focus on strengthening interfaith dialogue to foster inclusivity in society.

The two countries have expressed similar views on various matters, bilaterally and as regards responses to global issues, especially with regard to the promotion of peace and geopolitical stability in the region. With over 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, both Indonesia and Austria are committed to developing and expanding bilateral cooperation to new sectors. Despite fluctuations in trade between the two countries, Indonesia is considered by Austria to be a key player in the Southeast Asian region and a trustworthy and reliable trading partner. Henceforth, Indonesia and Austria will continue to work together to address global challenges and harness opportunities for mutual progress.
