PT. Tata Metal Lestari, a leader in the downstream steel industry in Indonesia which is part of the Tatalogam Group and a member of The Indonesia Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA), has again recorded a brilliant achievement by exporting 5,000 tons of coated steel to the United States. The strategic collaboration with PT. Krakatau Baja Industri, a subsidiary of PT. Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, shows the increasing competitiveness of Indonesian steel in the global market.
This export includes superior products such as Nexalume, Nexium, and Nexcolor, which have met international standards and are in demand by the United States market. The export value this time reached USD 7.2 million, and is also proof of the success of the national downstream steel industry in supporting the downstreaming program initiated by the government. Executive Director of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) Harry Warganegara said that IISIA welcomes the strategic collaboration between PT Tata Metal Lestari and PT Krakatau Baja Industri—a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk—in exporting coated steel products to the United States. "This achievement is clear evidence that the national steel industry is capable of producing downstream products with high added value and is competitive in the global market.," he said in an official statement on Wednesday (5/3). President Director of PT Krakatau Baja Industri, Arief Purnomo, added that PT Krakatau Baja Industri has a production capacity of up to 90,000 tons of coated steel raw materials per year, which is one of the main supporting factors in achieving this export.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesian steel exports continue to experience positive growth, with total national steel exports reaching 6.5 million tons in 2024, an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. This achievement confirms that Indonesia's downstream steel industry is increasingly competitive at the global level.
