Lobster Seed Exports: Kaur Contributes Billions to the State

Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province, has emerged as a key player in Indonesia’s fisheries sector, particularly in lobster seed exports. From November 2024 to February 2025, over 2 million baby lobsters were exported through an official scheme managed by the Public Service Agency (BLU), generating IDR 8 billion in Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP). According to Kaur Fisheries Office Secretary Roby Antomi, this sector has immense potential, with projections indicating that exports could reach 20 million lobsters annually, contributing up to IDR 80 billion to the state.

Currently, 10 Joint Business Groups (KUB) and three cooperatives hold sales quotas from BLU, though only two cooperatives—Koperasi Ratu Kaur Bahari and Koperasi Bahari Kencana—are actively operating. Roby emphasized the importance of compliance with regulations to prevent illegal trade and ensure economic benefits for both the state and local communities. Additionally, Kaur stands to gain from Revenue Sharing Funds (DBH), which amounted to IDR 1.1 billion last year and could grow with continued legal exports. With proper management and government oversight, Kaur Regency has the potential to become a major hub for lobster seed exports, boosting local prosperity and strengthening Indonesia’s fisheries industry.
