On the sidelines of a working visit to Paris, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, held a bilateral meeting with Eramet CEO, Christel Bories, at the Indonesian Embassy in Paris. The meeting was an important moment in strengthening France's support for Indonesia's energy transition, especially in the development of the nickel industry for electric vehicle batteries. Eramet, which is a major investor in the mining and downstream industry sectors, has demonstrated its commitment to playing a role in nickel downstreaming in Indonesia, with a focus on the development of green manufacturing facilities for the production of electric vehicle batteries in Weda Bay, Central Halmahera. Airlangga welcomed this proposal, emphasizing the importance of using environmentally friendly energy to support the sustainability of the industry as he said in a press statement from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Tuesday (4/3/2025).
Coordinating Minister Airlangga and Bories agreed to prepare a roadmap and estimate production capacity. Eramet also expressed his desire to invest further in Indonesia's critical minerals sector, with the aim of increasing collaboration with local partners. Bories revealed that the French company plans to seek investment opportunities, especially in downstreaming, through the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara). Furthermore, Eramet also expressed his support for accelerating the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EUCEPA) negotiations, in order to encourage investment and trade between Indonesia and the European Union, especially with France.
