In 2024, Surabaya's economy surged by 5.76%, surpassing the growth of East Java, which reached 4.93%. This positive growth was a result of collaborative efforts among Surabaya’s residents, especially after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Eri Cahyadi expressed gratitude to the people for their collective resilience, contributing to the city's remarkable economic performance. Surabaya also achieved a lower poverty rate of 3.96% and a decrease in the unemployment rate to 4.91%. The city's Gini ratio improved to 0.381, reflecting reduced inequality.
Furthermore, Surabaya's Human Development Index (HDI) reached 84.69%, the highest in East Java. The city made significant strides in health, education, and infrastructure. Notable achievements include a drop in stunting rates to 1.6%, the establishment of new healthcare facilities, and various programs to improve public services. The Surabaya administration also prioritized housing, education, and transportation. With 25,000 scholarships for high school students and 60,000 workers covered by BPJS, Surabaya continues to build a thriving, inclusive community.
