Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with Tajikistan’s non-resident Ambassador, Ardasher Qodiri, on Tuesday (4/3) to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic sector. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI), the meeting reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to enhancing economic ties. Sugiono highlighted Tajikistan as the largest Central Asian investor in Indonesia, with a total investment of USD 5 million over the past five years, and encouraged further expansion, particularly in mineral downstreaming, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s industrialization vision.
Both sides welcomed increased high-level visits, including Tajikistan PM Kakhir Rasulzoda’s participation in the 10th World Water Forum in Bali this May. They also hoped for future agreements to strengthen political and economic ties. Indonesia and Tajikistan have shared diplomatic relations for 30 years. In November, Indonesia’s Embassy in Astana, accredited to Tajikistan, hosted a reception in Dushanbe to mark the anniversary. Ambassador Fadjroel Rachman noted a 16% increase in bilateral trade over five years, peaking at USD 3.1 million in 2022. Tajikistan’s USD 5.1 million investment in Indonesia has also boosted tourism and people-to-people ties, with 106 Tajikistani students studying in Indonesia through scholarships since 2015.
