KKP-WWF Strengthen the Sustainability of Indonesia's Fisheries Industry

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are collaborating to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia’s fisheries industry. This partnership focuses on raising awareness among producers and consumers about responsible seafood sourcing while supporting the long-term preservation of marine resources. Over the past five years, this cooperation has led to key achievements, including five fish processing units obtaining international certification from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), enabling greater global market access.

Beyond production, the initiative has increased consumer awareness, with 40% now considering the source of their seafood and 50% preferring sustainably managed products. Their joint campaigns have garnered over 10,000 social media engagements and involved 1,700 seafood advisor app users. The collaboration also strengthens business networks, with 34 retail business meetings and pilot projects for capacity building. Furthermore, Indonesia's sustainable fisheries advocacy is being promoted in global forums, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to balancing environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic growth.
