The Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, released the first export of kratom produced by PT Oneject Indonesia to the United States and Europe, with an export value of USD 1.053 million. Kratom exports are regulated through Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No. 21/2024 and Permendag No. 20/2024, stipulating that business entities are permitted to export kratom powder or crumbs of less than 600 microns. According to the export regulations, kratom cannot be exported as a raw material, thus ensuring that kratom products have added value when exported. Kratom in leaf form has a value of IDR 25,000 per kilogramme, while kratom powder can reach IDR 82,000 per kilogramme. Currently, the majority of kratom production takes place in Kalimantan.
PT Oneject Indonesia's President Director, Jaja Tear Tjahjana, explained that the company employs a sterilisation process through an Electron Beam (E-Beam) mode to protect the product from contamination during the export process. Prior to the export, PT Sufocindo conducts research tests to ensure that the products meet the criteria issued by the Ministry of Trade. President Director of PT Sufocindo, Jobi Trianada, stated that they had received 76 samples of kratom products, of which 14 had passed the test, 8 had not passed, and the remainder were still in process.
