GAC International, in partnership with Indomobil, has announced a strategic move to strengthen investment in Indonesia. The collaboration, under the direction of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreamisation/BKPM, aims to accelerate the development of electric vehicles and improve the competitiveness of Indonesia's automotive industry on the global stage. The investment is made through plans for Indonesia to become the main base for manufacturing, research and development (R&D), and sales of GAC Group vehicles. The Indonesian automotive industry is set to benefit from GAC International's commitment to innovation, technology, and high-quality vehicles, which are key drivers of economic growth. This strategic investment is expected to generate employment opportunities, positively impacting the national economy.
GAC International's strategy for expansion in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region will be implemented in three phases. Initially, the company will focus on strengthening its manufacturing base in Indonesia. Subsequently, GAC aims to export to ASEAN countries, positioning Indonesia as a key player in electric vehicle production in Southeast Asia. Finally, Indonesia will become a major manufacturing hub for GAC International, contributing to the country's strengthening position in the global automotive industry. GAC International has formed a business partnership with Indomobil, with the establishment of a factory in Cikampek, West Java, boasting a production capacity of up to 50,000 units per year. This strategic move aims to accelerate production in response to market demands. The plant is scheduled to commence full operations in April 2025. Additionally, GAC International is introducing a battery electric vehicle (BEV) to the Indonesian market. Acknowledging the growing demand in the market, GAC is considering introducing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in the future.
