PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Unit Dumai has introduced biofloc technology to help fishermen in Kelurahan Mundam, Kecamatan Medang Kampai, cultivate fish more efficiently. This initiative includes the construction of an off-grid Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 4.4 kWp and a 5 kWh battery, reducing electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions by 5.52 tons of CO₂ per year. The technology enables fishermen to save up to IDR 9.3 million annually while ensuring a more stable income through sustainable fish farming.
Implemented by the Mundam Jaya Fishermen’s Cooperative, biofloc farming is space-efficient and allows fish to be harvested within 4–6 months. Beyond providing facilities and training, KPI Dumai ensures long-term sustainability by integrating renewable energy sources. This program not only enhances fishermen’s livelihoods but also raises awareness of clean energy use, helping them overcome challenges such as unpredictable weather and limited fishing infrastructure.
