Indonesia's ambitious 8% economic growth target for Vision 2045 must be built on a sustainable foundation, including a transition to renewable energy. Without this shift, the country risks worsening climate impacts such as natural disasters, air pollution, and economic instability due to fossil fuel price fluctuations, warned MPR RI Deputy Chairman Eddy Soeparno at an event at Universitas Bakrie, Jakarta (28/2/2025). He highlighted that rising temperatures in cities like Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Semarang, along with worsening air quality, signal an urgent need for climate crisis management.
Eddy emphasized that energy transition is not just an option but a necessity, as guaranteed by Indonesia’s constitution, which upholds the right to a healthy environment. He urged universities to collaborate with MPR RI in shaping energy policies based on research, recognizing students as key agents of change. MPR RI is committed to facilitating academic involvement in policymaking, legislation, and oversight, providing a vital opportunity for scholars to contribute directly to Indonesia's sustainable energy future.
