Calang Port, Aceh Jaya is a very strategic port and safe from ocean currents. Therefore, it is very suitable as an alternative import export gateway in the south west region or Barsela Aceh. Head of the Aceh Transportation Agency or Kadishub, Teuku Faisal, conveyed this during a working visit to the Class III Calang Port Management Unit Office, Aceh Jaya, Thursday (27/2/2025). During his visit, Teuku Faisal was greeted by the Head of the Class III Calang UPP Office, Zoelfikar AR and the Head of the Aceh Jaya Transportation and Land Agency, Masri. "This visit we want to see the readiness of the Calang Port facilities to support the export activities of original Aceh commodities. Especially in the southwestern region of Aceh such as CPO (crude palm oil), coal, iron ore, and other natural products," said Teuku Faisal.
As is known, strengthening transportation infrastructure and increasing connectivity between regions is one of the missions of the Governor of Aceh, Muzakir Manaf and his Deputy, Fahdlullah at this time to improve Aceh's economy through commodity exports to the international market. Export activities through Calang Port have been running since 2020, especially CPO exports to India. In 2020, CPO exports from this port reached 14,596 tons, then in 2022 it was 32,000 tons, and the following year it reached 43,420 tons. From the results of this review, the Head of the Aceh Transportation Agency hopes that the Class III Calang UPP can develop dock facilities from the current capacity of 5,000 tons to 15,000 tons, so that it can accommodate larger ships. He encouraged a study to be carried out on the construction of a breakwater so that export-import activities can be carried out throughout the year. On the same occasion, the Head of the Aceh Jaya Transportation and Land Agency, Masri, said that in 2025 it is planned to start shipping (exporting) coal to India via Calang Port.
