As a form of strategic steps to strengthen the foundation of the national economy, the Indonesian Government has set a high target to increase national steel production from 21 million tons to 27 million tons in 2029. Director of Metal Industry of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Dodi Prasetyo, at the ISSEI 2025 event in Jakarta, Thursday (27/2) said that the steel industry has a vital role for the country's economy. "Increasing production capacity from 21 million tons to 27 million tons in 2029 is a big challenge. This is the importance of careful planning and investment to achieve this target," said Dodi. According to him, increasing national steel production will reduce dependence on imports and increase the country's foreign exchange earnings. Even so, he reminded that increasing steel production capacity must be accompanied by quality and sustainability towards green steel.
Therefore, technological innovation and investment in more efficient and environmentally friendly production processes are needed. Collaboration between stakeholders, such as government, private sector, academics, and the community, must be strengthened to create an ecosystem that is conducive to the growth of the steel industry. For information, the Iron-Steel Summit & Exhibition Indonesia (ISSEI) 2025 is scheduled to be held at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) Senayan Jakarta, Hall A and B, on 21st-23rd May 2025. The 3-day exhibition activity with the theme "Together with the National Steel Industry Building the Foundation Towards a Golden Indonesia" showcases a variety of innovative iron & steel industry products and their derivatives from world-class steel producers. "We hope that this activity can be a strategic platform for the national steel industry, in order to strengthen the capacity of the national steel industry and make it a moment to improve the quality of national steel according to the Indonesian National Standard. Let's work together to support and advance the national steel industry," said Suryo Purnomo, Executive Committee of IISIA.
