The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), through the Fisheries Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP), is collaborating with the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) to boost Indonesia’s fisheries exports to Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to accelerate the approval process for adding new fish processing units (UPI) to Saudi Arabia's competent authorities, expanding Indonesia’s market share, which currently stands at only 0.6%. Key export products include canned tuna, skipjack, and lemuru, with a total export volume of 22,000 tons in 2024, valued at $91 million.
To further strengthen exports, KKP is supporting BPOM in facilitating bilateral meetings with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). The agency has submitted a request to register five additional UPI, ensuring compliance with Saudi import regulations. KKP is also working to enhance quality assurance and reassure Saudi authorities of Indonesia’s high standards. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, remains optimistic that ongoing improvements in fisheries production and sustainable aquaculture will significantly increase export value, aligning with Indonesia’s blue economy strategy.
