The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is exploring Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt as potential export markets for Indonesia’s growing Muslim fashion industry. With increasing global demand, Indonesia aims to strengthen its domestic market while enhancing international competitiveness. According to Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), the Muslim fashion sector is expected to expand rapidly in the coming years, aligning with the growth of the global Islamic economy. The State of Global Islamic Economy Report 2023-2024 estimates that Muslim consumer spending across six key sectors—including fashion, food, media, travel, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics—could reach USD 3.1 trillion by 2027, growing 4.8% over five years.
With an estimated USD 428 billion in Muslim fashion consumption by 2027, Indonesia sees a major opportunity to expand its exports. Additionally, domestic halal goods consumption is projected to reach USD 330.5 billion by 2025, with ready-to-wear clothing ranking among the top products. To strengthen Indonesia’s Muslim fashion industry, Kemenperin encourages businesses to innovate, collaborate with local garment manufacturers, and boost exports. With 2.7 million workers and 569,000 businesses in the apparel industry, Indonesia is well-positioned to become a global leader in modest fashion.
