The Indonesian Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) facilitates micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) in West Sumatra Province (Sumbar) to export rendang to Saudi Arabia through the UMKM Goes to Hajj program."In addition to helping facilitate UMKM to market rendang to the Holy Land, UMKM Goes To Hajj also helps with Hajj registration for business actors who are ready," said BPKH Executive Board member Harry Alexander in Padang, Sunday (23/02/2025). In running the UMKM Goes To Hajj program, BPKH collaborates with banks and sharia financing institutions. In addition, BPKH also invites hotel, retail and export-import business groups to play a role in helping UMKM distribute their products to the Saudi Arabian market. "MSMEs can play a role in the hajj ecosystem to meet the needs of providing typical Indonesian food during the hajj season such as rendang. With wider market access, MSME actors can develop and we hope they are able to register for hajj," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah in charge of MSMEs, Community Empowerment and the Environment, Anwar Abbas, said that the potential of West Sumatra products is not only rendang spices, but also various other typical spices that can penetrate the global market. "PP Muhammadiyah has 24 branches throughout the world that can be used as promotional channels as well as distribution of products from West Sumatra, especially rendang and rendang spices," said the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). He considered that collaboration between BPKH and many parties could advance and raise the class of MSMEs in Ranah Minang, especially expanding the rendang and rendang spices market to various countries in the world.
