The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is collaborating with the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta to follow up on the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA CEPA) finalized in June 2024. This partnership aims to expand Indonesia’s fisheries export market in the Americas by strengthening trade facilitation and leveraging sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) benefits. As the lead sector in fisheries, KKP has been actively involved in ICA CEPA negotiations since 2022, focusing on SPS, Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), and Trade and Sustainable Development-Environment.
To enhance quality assurance and food safety in fisheries, KKP’s Quality Agency has engaged in coordination meetings with the Canadian Embassy. This collaboration will connect KKP with relevant Canadian authorities to implement action plans under ICA CEPA. The initiative is expected to ease market access, ensure compliance with international standards, and boost Indonesia’s fisheries exports to the American continent.
