Ministry of Agriculture: Imported Cattle Breeding Stock Included in Livestock Investment Commitment

The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that the arrival of imported breeding cattle from Australia marks a significant investment commitment in the livestock sector. According to Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, 200 breeding cattle and 3,000 feeder cattle arrived at Tanjung Priok Port on February 21, 2025. This initiative aligns with government regulations requiring feedlot companies to import at least 3% breeding cattle to enhance domestic beef production and reduce reliance on imports. Additionally, the imported feeder cattle are expected to stabilize beef prices ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Deputy Head of Animal Quarantine, Sriyanto, assured that all imported cattle meet health regulations, including foot-and-mouth disease vaccination. Meanwhile, GAPUSPINDO Executive Director Djoni Liano stated that the feeder cattle will undergo fattening before distribution. This initiative reflects the government's long-term strategy to strengthen the livestock industry, ensuring stable beef supply and improving local farmers' livelihoods.
