Garudafood Launches Organic Waste Management Program in Depok, Promotes Circular Economy

PT Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya Tbk (Garudafood) continues to advance its commitment to sustainable waste management through an innovative maggot bioconversion program in Depok City. According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), household waste accounts for 54.58% of the national total, with 39.94% being organic waste. Recognizing this challenge, Garudafood’s program educates communities on sustainable waste practices and provides access to off-takers, allowing organic waste to generate economic benefits. Coinciding with National Waste Awareness Day on February 21, 2025, Garudafood officially launched its community-based waste management program, attended by 30 participants and inaugurated by local authorities.

The program utilizes Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae to break down organic waste into nutrient-rich compost for agriculture while producing high-protein maggots as an alternative feed for livestock and fish. These maggot-based products have economic potential, including livestock feed, fertilizer, and aromatherapy candles. Garudafood's initiative aligns with government programs like Proklim, demonstrating sustainable waste solutions and environmental benefits. Through this program, Garudafood reinforces its role as a leader in sustainable waste solutions, demonstrating how businesses can drive environmental and economic benefits simultaneously.
