Hashim Djojohadikusumo revealed that Indonesia is to become a manufacturing centre for the Global South (covering Asia, Africa and Latin America), following a meeting with Toyota Indonesia. The company has expressed a keen interest in making Indonesia a manufacturing centre for the southern region and currently exports cars to 80 countries, including Mexico. Hashim Djojohadikusumo also revealed that Toyota is looking to expand its export market. However, he acknowledged the constraints imposed by numerous regulations in the target countries, including the need for a free trade agreement with Mexico, that currently limit the expansion.
