The Aceh government through the Marine Fisheries Service (DKP) is targeting salt production in the westernmost province of Indonesia to reach 10,800 tons in 2025. Head of the Aceh Province DKP Aliman in Banda Aceh, Tuesday, said the target had increased compared to 2024 which was 10,600 tons. The target is in accordance with the production capacity listed in eight districts in Aceh Province. "For this year, we are targeting salt production of 10,800 tons. This target is in accordance with the existing production capacity," Aliman said. Aliman said salt production in Aceh in 2024 exceeded the target, reaching 12,380 tons. Of the 12,380 tons of salt, 11,614 tons were produced by boiling and 765 tons through a drying system.
Aliman said that the salt production centers were spread across eight districts, namely Aceh Besar with a production of 1,250 tons, Pidie with 5,172 tons, Pidie Jaya with 1,774 tons. Next, Bireuen Regency with a production of 2,446 tons, North Aceh with 1,268 tons, East Aceh with 308 tons, Southwest Aceh with 94 tons, and South Aceh Regency with a production of 66 tons. Although productivity has increased, he said, the amount of salt production has not been able to cover the need for salt in the Province. Based on estimates calculated by the Aceh Province Marine Affairs and Fisheries Department, the need for salt in the westernmost province of Indonesia reaches 46 thousand tons. Of the 46 thousand tons of salt needed, 36 thousand tons are for industry and 10 thousand tons for household consumption. Household consumption can be covered by current production, said Aliman. "With the current conditions, it is certainly difficult for Aceh to meet the need for 46 thousand tons of salt. Therefore, we continue to look for investors to build salt factories to meet industrial needs," said Aliman.
