Clove Production in Simeulue Reaches 3,907 Tons

The Plantation, Livestock, and Animal Health Service of Simeulue Regency stated that clove production in the island regency in the Indian Ocean reached 3,907 tons in 2024. Head of Plantation Division of the Plantation, Livestock, and Animal Health Service of Simeulue Regency, Alfianto, in Simeulue, Tuesday, said that the area of clove plantations reached 16,026 hectares. "Based on the data, clove production in 2024 reached 3,907 tons with a planted area of 16,026 hectares spread across 10 sub-districts in Simeulue Regency," he said. Alfianto said that the largest clove producer was in Teupah Barat District, with a production volume reaching 1,430.8 tons. Then, Salang District produced 462.1 tons of cloves. Alfianto said that of the 16,026 hectares of clove planting area, only 6,333 hectares were productive. Meanwhile, damaged plants reached 7,669 hectares. Meanwhile, plants that had not yet produced were 2,024 hectares. "If you look at the whole thing, clove plants in Simeulue are still quite good. Currently, farmers are also continuing to try to rejuvenate plants so that production increases," Alfianto said.

Regarding obstacles, Alfianto said that the obstacles faced by farmers at this time were during the harvest. Farmers are overwhelmed looking for workers to pick cloves because people who want to work harvesting cloves are hard to find. "The local government continues to provide support to the community in developing clove plants by providing seeds and other assistance," said Alfianto. Simeulue Regency is the outermost island region in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.
