Cocoa Imports Increase by 119% in January 2025 to Support Processed Product Exports

Indonesia's cocoa imports surged by 119% in January 2025, reaching USD 304.41 million, primarily to support the growing demand for exported processed cocoa products. According to Acting Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Ecuador remained Indonesia's top cocoa supplier, contributing USD 136.79 million, followed by Kenya, Cameroon, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. The increase in raw cocoa imports reflects Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing its cocoa processing industry, ensuring a stable supply for export markets.

Despite a trade deficit in cocoa with Ecuador, Indonesia maintained an overall trade surplus of USD 16.11 million in cocoa and its derivatives. In January 2025, cocoa and processed cocoa exports rose by 3.4% month-on-month, totaling USD 320 million. The United States, India, and China were the top export destinations, with key products including cocoa butter, cocoa fat and oil, cocoa powder, and cocoa paste. This positive trend highlights Indonesia’s strong position in the global cocoa industry and its ability to meet rising international demand.
