The Head of Indonesia's Quarantine Agency, Sahat Manaor Panggabean, announced that Indonesia is ready to export durian directly to China. He emphasized the continuous coordination with the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government, the National Food Agency, and business players. "Indonesia is ready to export durian directly to China. We are one team, and Indonesia is prepared," he stated during a coordination meeting on the protection of biological resources and export promotion in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Monday.
Panggabean explained that the government is actively working to boost Indonesia's economic growth to 8%, with export promotion as a key focus. Since 2023, the government has initiated trade cooperation with China for the export of four agricultural and fishery commodities, including swallow nests, coconut, durian, and fishmeal. He further mentioned that the draft protocol for exporting durian has been completed, and only the signing remains. The export protocol to China is stringent, requiring compliance with Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP). A team from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) is set to audit the packing houses and durian orchards in Central Sulawesi from March 9–14, 2025. This coordination meeting aims to ensure all involved parties meet the GACC's standards. With this preparation, Panggabean hopes the export process will run smoothly, improving the competitiveness of Indonesian agricultural products in international markets.
