The Riau Provincial Government through the Marine and Fisheries Service (DKP) continues to be committed to increasing freshwater fish production. Most recently, the Riau DKP has provided cage assistance for 12 districts/cities in Riau. The Head of the Riau DKP, Yurnalis, said that this cage assistance was adjusted to the needs of each region. "This assistance is part of the government's efforts to support fishermen and fish farmers in increasing their production," said Yurnalis, Friday (2/14/2025). In addition to the assistance program, the Riau DKP is also actively attracting investors to build fish feed factories, considering that the need for fish feed in this area is still very high, while the number of freshwater fish farmers is quite large. Riau is still one of the main producers of freshwater fish in Sumatra, with Kampar Regency being the largest with production reaching 65,167.80 tons in 2024," said Yurnalis. Yurnalis also revealed that his party had discussed with the elected governor of Riau to discuss strategic steps in increasing fish production, including building a fish feed factory in this area.
"We continue to communicate with the governor of Riau regarding various steps to advance the fisheries sector. Our focus is also on attracting investors to build feed mills," he added.
In addition to Kampar, several other districts also contributed significantly to freshwater fish production, such as Pelalawan with 7,355.00 tons, Rokan Hulu 7,324.21 tons, Bengkalis 5,444.11 tons, and Kuantan Singingi with 4,752.13 tons. Meanwhile, Indragiri Hulu Regency produced 4,410.67 tons, Rokan Hilir 3,959.51 tons, Indragiri Hilir 2,511.88 tons, and Siak 1,191.78 tons.
