The NTB Provincial Parliament (DPRD NTB) is urging the optimization of Gili Mas Port in Sekotong, West Lombok Regency, to become a new economic growth center. The presence of Gili Mas Port is seen as having significant potential to drive the economy of both the local community and the region. According to H. Suharto, a member of the DPRD NTB's Commission IV, the port offers extraordinary potential to support various sectors, ranging from creative industries to tourism services.
Suharto emphasized that the use of Gili Mas Port should not be limited to just a docking place for cruise ships but should be maximized to create tangible impacts on the surrounding economy. He pointed out that the port could be a great opportunity for small businesses, especially in marketing local products through travel agent networks in Lombok. Suharto also highlighted that the port's existence presents a significant opportunity for the local water utility company, PDAM Giri Menang, as cruise ships require large amounts of fresh water. With the high water demand, Suharto is optimistic that Gili Mas Port can become a major source of revenue for both the private sector and the local government. He stressed the importance of the local government actively managing and optimizing the port's potential to ensure its economic benefits are felt by the community.
