Indonesia is advancing its renewable energy transition with the development of floating solar power plants (PLTS Terapung) in Batam and Surabaya. Utomodeck Group, through its Utomo SolaRUV division, has partnered with Sungrow Floating PV, a global leader in floating solar technology, to manufacture key components for domestic and export markets. The collaboration aims to boost Indonesia’s competitiveness in solar technology, supporting the national renewable energy mix target. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ (ESDM) goal of generating 20.9 GW of renewable energy by 2030, and achieving 421 GW of solar power capacity by 2060, contributing to 60% of the total electricity supply. Utomo SolaRUV has already established a 1 GWp-capacity floating solar module and floater factory in Batam, enhancing local supply chains and technological innovation.
Beyond manufacturing, the partnership includes technology transfer and research collaboration, ensuring that Indonesia not only adopts floating solar technology but also becomes a key player in its development. Arnold Layuk Mairi, Director of PT Sungrow Floating Batam, emphasized that the cooperation will accelerate innovation, increase competitiveness, and build a sustainable floating solar industry ecosystem. Additionally, this initiative is expected to attract further investment, create local job opportunities, and enhance Indonesia’s energy security. President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the importance of energy self-sufficiency, highlighting that the floating solar expansion aligns with national efforts to strengthen energy resilience. With the new facilities in Batam and Surabaya, Utomodeck Group is committed to supporting Indonesia’s vision for energy independence and industrial growth.
