RI Imports 834 Sheep from Australia

Indonesia imported 834 live sheep from Australia. Hundreds of sheep landed at West Java Kertajati International Airport on Tuesday, 28th January 2015. The sheep were imported from Australia using a Malaysia Airlines cargo plane by PT Ayodhya Agro Abadi. This was conveyed by the Head of Internal Compliance and Counseling Section of Cirebon Customs, Bebono. The imported live sheep consisted of 50 male and 427 female Dorper types, 80 male and 140 female Suffolk types, and 45 male and 92 female Texel types. "There are a total of 175 male sheep and 659 female sheep. The quality of these seeds is the main focus, with the hope of producing superior offspring," he said in his statement, Wednesday (12/2/2025). He ensured the smooth import of the live sheep seeds, Cirebon Customs in collaboration with the Indonesian Quarantine Agency. Cirebon Customs ensures that all sheep seeds have met customs procedures and permits according to regulations. "We conducted an inspection at the PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta Cargo Warehouse location to ensure that all procedures are met in accordance with applicable regulations," he continued.

It is known that this import aims to support the breeding program in order to increase national meat food security. With the increasing need for domestic meat, this activity is expected to contribute positively to food security by providing quality and affordable meat for the Indonesian people. "With these superior seeds, it is hoped that Indonesian livestock productivity will increase and contribute to national food security," concluded Bebono.
